ΤThe National Parking Management System, a budget project of 20 million euros, will be implemented -in the first phase- on a pilot basis in 20.000 parking spaces in cities across the country, with multiple benefits for municipalities, residents, people with disabilities and professionals.
Technologically, the project is based on innovative solutions based on the Internet of Things and includes:
- Parking sensors that control the parking space and can be placed on the road or sidewalk.
- Geo-Location technology, which "leads" the driver to the free parking space via smartphone and informs him about traffic regulations, weather phenomena and / or current activities of the municipality, while with the same technology the competent municipal service is notified for illegal occupation. position.
- Alternative payment methods (smartphone applications, purchase of prepaid parking time via sms or card).
- Training of local government staff, a fact of particular importance for the successful implementation of an innovative and pioneering project.
The Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information, Nikos Pappas, stressed: "We are fulfilling our commitment to the modernization of cities.
