EETT: What to look out for when buying radio equipment (mobile, and other devices) in Black Friday offers

In view of the discount days (Black Friday, Cyber ​​Monday) and the festive shopping season, h EETT Informs consumers and businesses about the current framework for the purchase of radio equipment.


Radio equipment is defined as any electrical or electronic product that voluntarily emits radio waves for the purpose of radio communication.

They belong to this category cordless and mobile phones, wireless games, wireless speakers, tablets and computers with wireless connectivity, wireless printers, TVs, radios, smartwatches, wireless biometers (health monitors), wireless transceivers, wireless internet devices , IoT), home electrical appliances with built-in wireless capabilities etc.

Consumers should know that based on it European Directive 2014/53 / EU, which has been incorporated into Greek law by Presidential Decree 98/2017, compliant devices have, inter alia:

  • the CE mark, both on the packaging and on the body of the device
  • accompanying documents that include in the Greek language the instructions for use and safety
  • as well as the EU declaration of conformity with which the manufacturer declares that the requirements contained in the above European Directive are met.

In case the consumer finds out that he has bought a radio equipment for which the provisions are not observed, he can send a relevant complaint via e-mail to the address info@eett.gr, using for its convenience, the complaint form that it will find posted on the following link:

In addition, it is pointed out that for the compliance of the radio equipment, important obligations are placed on the commercial companies that sell radio equipment to the consumers.

These companies are obliged to ensure that every device they make available to consumers bears both the prescribed markings and the necessary accompanying documents.

In case of breaches of these obligations, the legislation provides for the imposition of measures and sanctions on all entities involved in the supply chain. Finally, it is pointed out that EETT, within the framework of its responsibilities, intensively continues the relevant market controls and systematically monitors the observance of the regulatory framework for the disposal of radio equipment, intervening where and when deemed necessary.
