What the company claims
At GTC China 2019, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled a new gaming laptop, the Lenovo Legion Y740. The company's new laptop will be equipped with GeForce RTX 2080, will have a thickness of 21 mm and will weigh 2,5 kg.
However, the controversial point of the presentation is that in the image presented by Huang it is clear that the company states the following: "RTX 2080> NEXT GEN CONSOLE". In short, Nvidia claims that the RTX 2080 is more powerful than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The Lenovo Legion Y740 specifically has the GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q which offers theoretical performance 12,89TF. This number is higher than 12TF which the Xbox Series X will deliver, and more than double that 6TF of the Xbox One X.
Theoretical numbers say a lot. However, only the final system can bring out the true performance of a graphics card. So, we have to wait for the first benchmarks of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Until then, we can not know if Nvidia cards are really more powerful than the next generation consoles.
