The White House is in talks with the two semiconductor companies about construction of new chip factories in the USA.

The vast majority of Intel semiconductor manufacturing (75%) already takes place in the United States. The company has factories in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Oregon. But the Trump administration wants to encourage the construction of a few more factories. "Intel is in a good position to work with the US government to operate a US-owned commercial foundry and provide a wide range of safe microelectronics," Intel spokesman William Moss told Reuters.
The company had previously met with the Department of Defense and expressed interest in building a chip factory in collaboration with the Pentagon. "This is more important than ever, given the uncertainty created by the current geopolitical environment," Intel CEO Bob Swan wrote in a March letter to the Department of Defense.
