H Intel sent invitations to the special press for a important announcement, rather online, which is scheduled for 2 Σεπτεμβρίου.
Σthe invitation shall not contain any details beyond a single line "We have something big to share...“. "Big" can mean "big" or "great".
The Verge believes that this is the announcement of the "Tiger Lake" processors for laptops that are both "big" in size and "great" with their rumored performance. After all, Intel has told manufacturers that "Tiger Lake" is coming in the fall.
Other representatives of the special press believe that something related to the desktop will be announced, either in the form of performance preview or in the form of teaser, probably in relation to the 11th generation "Rocket Lake-S" for the desktop.
But why in September?
Because so much AMD and Nvidia will be busy announcing and releasing new generation GPUs (RDNA2 and Ampere), while in parallel AMD will also be preparing to announce Zen 3 processor processors that will launch the performance of the AM4 platform. So if Intel announces the "Rocket Lake-S" first, then it could steal the spotlight with increase in IPC that these processors will bring after 5 years for Intel.
"Rocket Lake" will use "Cypress Cove" cores which will be essentially backported "Willow Cove" cores, but designed for 14nm.
