A fixed request of the providers is put in consultation immediately by the EETT. It is about enforceability indexation adjustments to telecommunications tariffs
Once a year and in the way that will emerge from the public consultation, it is expected that EETT will satisfy a permanent and perennial demand of the market for adjustments to the tariffs of telecommunications depending on the consumer price index.
A while ago, the Commission took the relevant decision to put the matter in consultation, with the aim of completing the whole process within 2023 and for the measure to come into effect.
The aim of the Commission is to run the relevant process at a fast pace, with the public consultation having a duration of time 30 days, where consumers will be invited to submit their opinions through their statutory representation bodies as well as providers.
As a high-ranking official of EETT points out, the price indexation of telecommunications tariffs is valid all over the world, however in Greece there was no relevant legislation that would allow such a thing.
The consultation will determine the time when the readjustment will be imposed and whether there will be a "ceiling" , i.e. the percentage that can be imposed.
The providers' request from mid-2022 concerns the ability to adjust tariffs based on inflation, or at least the adjustment to cover a part of this inflationary pressure. Providers cite increased energy costs, material price adjustments for their networks, rising wages.
However, it is not EETT's intention that any inflationary pressure be borne by the consumer, but that part of it be charged to the service provider.
For the contracts signed before the new EETT indexation mechanism came into force, according to information, the possibility will be given departure of customers without charge.
