Η Greece continues to have it lower percentage of fixed high-speed internet connections, while in areas with few inhabitants coverage was nil

Σsignificant progress has been made in EU regarding the course of achieving the goal set by European Commission for gigabit connectivity in all her households EU and 5G coverage for all residential areas up to 2030.

As pointed out in its statistical analysis Eurostat, significant progress has already been made in installing very high capacity fixed network links (VHCN) throughout the EU.

Greece is neither more nor less a discrepancy in the general positive picture. Our country has the smallest percentage of fixed high-speed connections in Internet, while in areas with few inhabitants the coverage was zero.

In more detail, in 2021 70% of EU households enjoyed high-speed internet coverage, from just 16% the 2013.

Connectivity VHCN also improved in areas with low establishment. Between 2013 and 2021, the share of households in low-installation areas with a fixed VCHN connection increased from 4% to 37% throughout the EU.

Large differences between countries

Despite progress, however, access levels vary significantly between EU member states and also within many member states in terms of population density, Eurostat finds.

First for Malta, Greece on the other hand

In 2021, Malta recorded high-speed internet coverage for all households (100%), followed by Luxembourg (96%), Denmark (95%) and Spain (94%).

In contrast, fixed high-speed internet connections were the least common in Greece (20%), in Cyprus (41%) and in Italy (44%).

In sparsely populated areas, the most widespread coverage was reported in Malta (100%), followed by Luxembourg, Denmark and the Netherlands (79%). Meanwhile, less widespread coverage in sparsely populated areas was reported in Greece (0%), followed by the Czech Republic (7%) and Finland (12%).
