Μon the occasion of various relevant publications, which also contain excerpts from documents that the Vodafone Greece has submitted to National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT), the company points out that, having pioneered the digital transition with its investments (being in fact the first provider to invest in fiber optics), it supports every effort it makes to this end.
- Vodafone has shown through its investments in new generation networks and commercial practices that it is a pioneer and believes in digital switching and upgrading of networks and services.
- This transition must take place on fair terms and in a way that ensures competition and equal access.
- The distortion of competition and the failure to ensure a level playing field actually lead to a return to monopoly conditions, to the detriment of the consumers themselves.
So, had welcomed from the first moment the announcement of OTE for upgrading the connections of Greek consumers, even declaring its commitment to implement the upgrade for its own customers, provided that this is always possible on equal and fair terms.
In this direction of ensuring a fair competitive environment, it has submit a relevant request to EETT three months ago, which unfortunately has not been examined by the Commission to date, and whose hearing is scheduled for April 8 2022. Therefore, there is no issue of extraordinary "blocking" by the company, as incorrectly reported by press releases, but delays in processing a reasonable request for which the company is not responsible.
Vodafone asks EETT:
- To be put directly in force the new margin compression control model for OTE retail packages, which and has been "frozen" since March 2021, when the relevant consultation was completed. It should be noted that today the control is done with the obsolete model of 2011.
- Take immediate interim measures to protect the competitive market structure until the economic reproducibility from the rest of the market which in our estimation can be achieved only through the provision of an appropriate discount scheme not only in the one-time transition fee but also in the monthly wholesale fee.
- Start the model update process immediately BULRIC + wholesale charges in order to take into account current developments and changes in the market, based on the change in demand.
