Later this year, older apps that have more than two API versions registered will no longer be able to install or appear in your Play Store search. Google says most in-store applications comply with these standards and will not be affected.
There are some important reservations here. Applications that you have installed or purchased from a long time ago will still be visible even after the changes made by Google. Only new users will be protected from obsolete software. In addition, you will be able to see the older applications if you use a phone or tablet that "runs" the corresponding version of Android. For example, on a phone that "runs" Android 9 Pie (API 28), will still be able to see applications targeting 28 API. But if this device is later upgraded to Android 10 or later, these applications will be hidden.
According to Google, the rationale for this change is simple. If you are using a phone with the latest Android update, you would naturally expect all of these advanced security features to work.
But the old applications that target older levels Android API ignore many of these features, and applications that have not been updated for almost a decade can be quite dangerous to run now.
The changes that Google will make will be enabled by 1 in November 2022, and this gives developers some time to prepare, but as many of the affected applications have been abandoned by their creators, they are likely to remain in obscurity and disappear altogether from searching in Google Play Store.
