The Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) is just around the corner and the update will bring big changes to Start Menu.
Η Default Start Menu layout has been improved and will be active immediately on new devices, new Windows installations and new user accounts. This means that if we clean install Windows 10 or create a new user account the default Start Menu layout will have a cleaner and sleeker design, with fewer tiles and a single column.
In addition to the design changes, Microsoft has made some significant changes to improve the response of the Start Menu. Initially, we will now be able to unhook an entire folder or a complete set of tiles. Additionally, in the Windows 10 May 2019 Update we will be able to uninstall the pre-installed Windows applications from the Start Menu.
The Windows 10 May 2019 Update will also bring Fluent Design elements to the left navigation panel, ie to the point where, among other things, it houses the power button. In addition to the updated design, the side panel will expand when we hover the mouse over any button, so that users are better informed about the operation of each icon.
Also, when there is an update that is pending and we need to restart our computer, in the Windows 10 May 2019 Update the power button will turn orange.
Finally, in the Windows 10 May 2019 Update the Start Menu will have its own process, called StartMenuExperienceHost, which can be seen in the Windows Task Manager. This will improve the performance and the unreliability problems it is currently facing. The Start Menu will open faster and according to Microsoft these improvements will help increase the performance of the entire system.
