Microsoft: New milestone for personal data protection in the EU (EU Data Boundary)

The expansion of the company's initiatives concerning the storage and processing of personal data, position it as the first leading cloud service provider that has the ability to fully meet the needs of public and private sector customers in the European market who desire even stronger commitments in relation to data residency.

Plan EU Data Boundary and the solutions it develops to continuously enhance data processing and storage within the EU, applies to all core Microsoft cloud computing services – Azure, Microsoft 365, Power Platform and Dynamics365. The new capabilities in data cap implementation are part of the company's wider initiative and allow users to process and store all their personal data within the EU, in full compliance or even exceeding the provisions of the Union's guidelines.

In this direction, the expansion of the capabilities of Microsoft's cloud services is implemented with absolute respect for European values ​​and meets the specific requirements of the company's users in Europe.

Microsoft is now further expanding local storage and processing to include all personal data, such as automated system logs.

The new improvements to the data limit of the EU for Microsoft Cloud focus on three areas:

  1. The EU Data Limit now allows all data to be processed and stored in the EU across all of its core cloud services Microsoft – Azure, Microsoft 365, Power Platform and Dynamics 365. This means that the EU Data Boundary now includes pseudonymised personal data. Thus, users now have the opportunity to store and process even more of their data within the European Union.
  2. New transparency resources are provided, including various files and information, that users can access on the website EU Data Boundary Trust Center.
  3. Large investments have been made to develop technology to further protect pseudonymized personal data in Orio.

Also, with the implementation of the EU data cap, the Microsoft keeps true to its commitment to cyber security world class. Microsoft has more than 8.000 global experts who analyze trillions of signals every day to discover threats and provide timely relevant cybersecurity information to detect and mitigate malicious activity.

Later this year, the next phase of the EU data cap will be announced Microsoft Cloud, transforming the possibilities of processing and storing the data received during interactions technical support. Support data will be stored within the boundary and, when access is required from outside the EU, any temporary data transfer required will be ensured through technical approaches such as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
