Microsoft : Starts blocking unauthorized Xbox controllers

Η Microsoft it starts to block unauthorized Xbox controllers and other accessories, which are not made by Microsoft or an accredited Microsoft partner

Users who attempt to connect unauthorized accessories to their console will receive a warning message stating that the accessory will be blocked from further use after two weeks.

This move by Microsoft may target unauthorized accessories used for cheating (cheat devices), like the XIM, Cronus Zen and ReaSnow S1. These accessories allow users to use a mouse and keyboard on their console, thus gaining an advantage over gamers using a controller.

Η Activision, Bungie and Ubisoft have already taken steps to block these accessories in their games, such as Call of Duty, Destiny 2 and Rainbow Six Siege.

  • Microsoft has stated that this move is part of the company's commitment to providing a fair and equal gaming experience for all users.
  • Microsoft has not provided details on which unauthorized accessories will be banned. However, it is likely that it will include accessories that give players an advantage, such as cheat devices.
  • Microsoft has given users two weeks to return their unauthorized accessories.

Microsoft has yet to clarify the reasons for this move, but it's likely related to its effort to expand approval for third-party Xbox wireless controllers. THE PowerA released the first officially licensed third-party wireless controller for consoles Xbox earlier this year.

Most Xbox controllers third-party protocols are wired, as Microsoft has not licensed the protocol XboxWireless to other manufacturers. However, it's possible that Microsoft is preparing to allow more manufacturers to make Xbox wireless controllers, and this move might be related to that.

It remains to be seen how this move will affect Xbox players. On the one hand, it's good that Microsoft is trying to protect the gaming experience from cheaters. On the other hand, some players may be disappointed if the unauthorized controllers they use are banned.
