Snapdragon 865: This will be the next SOC from Qualcomm

Η Qualcomm will reveal him Snapdragon 865 which will be integrated into the smartphones that will release the 2020.

Η Qualcomm recently unveiled the updated Snapdragon 855 SoC, which goes by the name Snapdragon 855+, however this SoC is not very different from its predecessor.

Most of the SoCs released in 2019 smartphones were created with the 7nm architecture. The 865 chip is expected to be developed with the same architecture, but this time Qualcomm will use Samsung's 7nm EUV lithograph. Samsung lithography promises 20-30% increase in efficiency and 30-50% better energy consumption.

In addition, the Snapdragon 865 chip is expected to integrate the ARM Cortex-A77, which according to ARM offer a 20% increase in performance over the Cortex-A76.

The new cores can be easily combined with the Cortex-A55 which undertake less demanding processes. This means that the Snapdragon 865 will consist of a Kryo, high-frequency Cortex-A77 based, three more of the same Kryo at a slightly lower frequency, and four Kryo Cortex-A55 based cores.

The new chip is expected to use LPDDR5 memory which has 6.400Mbps transfer speed compared to LPDDR4x memory which has 4.266Mbps transfer speed. These memories will allow you to run and open heavier applications faster. In addition, the camera will be improved, which uses enough memory to perform some of its functions such as Night mode.

The GPU can not be said with certainty that it will be the Adreno 650. This GPU will bring some improvements in gaming and graphics. Qualcomm is expected to bring HDR10 + support but not the same HDR10 + it supports now. Specifically, rumors say that the company is preparing its own HDR standard which just happens to have the same name as the Samsung standard.

The coveted 5G is slowly appearing in the countries and the companies are revealing the first smartphones that support the new network. Qualcomm is reportedly preparing to release two versions of the Snapdragon 865, one of which will support 5G.

More specifically, one SoC will have a built-in 5G modem. For now, companies will have to integrate the separate Snapdragon X50 5G modem in their smartphones. The Snapdragon X55, the second generation 5G modem will significantly reduce its size and can be integrated into another chip.

We can not say much about the release date, so let's take the previous Snapdragon 855 as a point of comparison. The chip will probably be announced in early December. This means that the early smartphones of 2020 will not integrate it. Samsung is likely to be the first company to bring the Snapdragon 865 to market with the release of the Galaxy S11.
