This new technology is designed to enable faster upload speeds and extend mobile coverage, making the trials the first of their kind in Europe.

In a joint statement, the companies explained that the partnership includes the combination of autonomous (SA) Vodafone's 5G with the last Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and an upcoming one Xiaomi flagship class smartphone. Using these three components to test the advanced technology, the three companies were able to record peak upload speeds of up to 273 Mb / s.

This speed is slightly more than twice the average speed of “more than today's smartphones and home broadband services", which amounts to 100MB / s and increases speeds closer to download levels.

With the next generation devices expected to hit the market later this year, the best speeds in uplink will enable faster photo and video uploads to social media and the cloud, the companies said. New technology will also help increase demand for VR applications, as well as for the games.

The increase in speed was made possible by using Uplink channel aggregation technology, by switching the broadcast (Tx), which combines multiple transmission channels supported by the antennas of Xiaomi smartphones.

Ο Chief Network Officer of Vodafone, Alberto Ripepi, said he wants the company's customers to "are among the first anywhere in the world to benefit from this new feature in 5G networks when it becomes available” and noted her efforts to “lead to a stronger vendor and developer ecosystem».

Pilot tests were carried out in Spain and Germany, using the commercial network SA 5G by Vodafone.

Η Vodafone Germany started commercial services SA 5G in 2021 with Ericsson and Oppo. It also plans to deploy the technology on rail routes connecting the country's major cities by 2025.
