Η Qualcomm, one of the world's leading semiconductor and telecommunications equipment companies, recently announced the release of two modem chips, namely the 212S and 9205S who support her satellite connection

These new chips from Qualcomm will meet the growing demands in the business sector Internet of Things (IoT) as well as the satellite industry, which is expected to grow exponentially over the next decade.

Qualcomm's new modems offer hybrid satellite connectivity and ultra-low power consumption and comply with the standard 3GPP Release 17, making them ideal for synchronous ground orbit satellite communication (GEO / GSO). In addition, they also support global positioning (GPS).

The 212S modem is ideal for long distance fixed position applications

The chip 9205S, which is already in the market, is touted to provide seamless connectivity between IoT devices, but also of cellular and satellite networks. This integration enables accurate recording of positioning data via the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). As a result, this new Modem can have application in various industries, such as container tracking, agricultural equipment and livestock tracking, and global fleet and cargo management across supply chains globally.

On the other hand, the 212S modem due out later this year, will support long-range fixed location tracking, and according to Qualcomm, this particular chip excels at optimizing battery usage to deliver long battery life for devices, but also perform various tasks in background such as the collection of telemetry data from water and fuel tanks, meters and other infrastructure equipment. In addition, it is suitable for public network monitoring, early fire detection reporting, etc.

Both new chips leverage the platform Qualcomm Aware, which offers real-time asset tracking and device management services in remote locations. In cooperation with the service provider NTN Skylo, the platform Qualcomm Aware promises a great improvement in both their functionality and performance.
