NVIDIA: Acquires ARM for $ 40 billion, retains Cambridge headquarters

An important acquisition that can hardly be ignored and a change of landscape in the world of processors, as well as NVIDIA acquires ARM!

As noted in the relevant announcement of NVIDIA, the combination of the two companies "brings together NVIDIA's leading AI computing platform with ARM's huge ecosystem to create the leading artificial intelligence computing company, accelerating innovation while expanding into large, high-growth markets".

For its part, the Softbank will retain a stake in ARM that reaches 10%.

"Artificial intelligence is the most powerful technological force of our time and a new wave of computers has begun" notes the Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

"In the coming years, trillions of computers using AI will create a new IoT that is thousands of times larger than today's internet-of-people. Our collaboration will create a company with a dominant position in the AI ​​era".

ARM, after the acquisition, will maintain its headquarters in Cambridge. According to NVIDIA, it will expand into this area, building a world-class research facility in the field of AI, supporting developments in healthcare, life sciences, robotics, self-driving cars and other areas. And to attract researchers and scientists from the UK as well as from around the world, NVIDIA will build one state-of-the-art AI supercomputer, to be powered by ARM CPUs, converting it ARM Cambridge in a global technology center.

"Joining forces with a global leader in technological innovation creates new and exciting opportunities for ARM" notes the Masayoshi Son, its President and CEO SBG.

Upon completion of the acquisition, NVIDIA intends to keep the name and the strong identity of ARM, while it will continue to operate its existing model of partnerships through it open-licensing.
