Night Mode: In the end it may not be so beneficial for sleep!

According to his research University of manchester, the yellow tint on the screens is not as beneficial, as it may be worse than blue light.


Μcan the companies that make smartphones have added night mode to their devices to reduce blue light, which according to studies causes problems in sleeping, but came a study that overturns this data.

The lead researcher, Dr. Tim Brown says the whole issue of blue light begins with a 20-year-old discovery that melanopsin, an eye protein, is important in regulating heart rate.

«The melanopsin system is there to detect brightness. Because this protein was better at detecting shortwave photons, it was thought to work in favor of blue light. However, retinal conjunctival cells also play a role as they determine color and do the opposite of what most people think", Claimed Dr. Tim Brown.

The study therefore argues that brightness levels are more important than color in regulating circadian rhythm. In fact, when the light has the same brightness, the blue color is more relaxing than the yellow.

However, it is worth noting that the experiments were performed only on mice and so far we simply believe that the same is true for humans.
