Mercedes-Benz USA announced that due to a software problem, it is recalling 1.29 million vehicles sold between 2016 and 2021.
Το Reuters reports that the carmaker has discovered that when an accident occurs, the power supply to a communication unit may "temporarily collapse", with the result that the current position of the vehicle may be incorrectly declared during the emergency call.
The manual and automatic emergency call functions still work, but they are of no use if they are located in the wrong location.
The models that are recalled are CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, UPS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S -Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class, B-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class and G-Class.
The good news is that the repair process is relatively simple, as it is a software update that can be done by dealerships or over-the-air depending on the vehicle.
Owners can make sure their vehicle belongs to the recall category by going on the National Road Traffic Safety page and by entering the vehicle identification number.
Instructions on where to locate the AAO are also provided on the page above.
