The percentage of use of operating systems for desktop with based on Linux increased in May 2020, according to statistics from NetMarketShare.
Η previous report showed the Linux to double its rates from March to April. New statistics for May show that this trend has continued.
Specifically, the share of Linux usage, among all other operating systems for the desktop reached a new high, from 2,87% to 3,17% for May. This percentage may seem small for Microsoft operating systems, but so far such a percentage has never been recorded for Linux.
From Linux distributions, Ubuntu rose from 1,87% to 2,11%, something that no doubt helped the momentum from the release of the 20.04 LTS version. Apple's MacOS continues to be Microsoft's largest competitor with almost 10%. All versions of Windows account for 86% of desktop PC users.
Note that NetMarketShare does not count Chrome OS at Linux rates, despite being based on it. It is mentioned separately and has a percentage of 0,40%.
