Η SpaceX will build the manned spacecraft for the historic program NASA Artemis.

Τthe spacecraft Orion will transport four astronauts to lunar orbit, where two crew members will be transported to the human landing system (Hls) of her SpaceX for the last leg of their journey to the Moon. After a week of exploring the rocky surface of the moon, the pair of astronauts will board the ship and travel to Orion for the return trip to Earth.

Its lunar exploration program NASA, which was approved in 2017, will land the first woman and the next man on the Moon in 2024 and will contribute to the creation of a sustainable human lunar presence by the end of the decade. Artemis shipments are expected to begin this year with its trading partners NASA.

Η SpaceX and NASA worked closely together to develop the HLS Starship, ensuring that it meets performance requirements and space flight standards - from engineering, safety and health to medical engineering.

The landing system, which has a "spacious cab" and two decompression chambers for space walking, takes features from the engines SpaceX Raptor and vehicles Falcon and Dragon. The Starship is intended to evolve into a fully reusable launch and launch system designed for travel to Moon, Mars and in "other destinations".

«This is an exciting time for NASA and especially for the Artemis team» said Lisa Watson-Morgan, program director for HLS at the Marshall Flight Center of NASA in Huntsville, Alabama.

During the Apollo program, we proved that it is possible to do the seemingly impossible: to land humans on the Moon. Following a collaborative approach with industry, and leveraging NASA's proven technical know-how and capabilities, we will bring American astronauts back to the surface of the Moon once again, this time to explore new areas for longer periods of time.

The amount contract 2,89 billion dollars, according to her partner NASA for the Directorate of Human Exploration and Operations, Kathy lueders, will allow the management and its associates to "complete the first full-moon demo mission to the 21st century».

«The service [takes] a step forward for women's equality and long-term exploration of outer spaceHe added. «This crucial step puts humanity on a path to sustainable lunar exploration and keeps our eyes on missions farther into the solar system, including Mars.».

In December, the NASA announced the 18 men and women who will form the team Artemis - including the Jessica Meir and Christina Koch, who performed the first spacewalk exclusively with women in 2019.
