Η new "flagship" of its chipsets Qualcomm just announced. And her name Snapdragon 855, instead of the Snapdragon 8150 we had seen in several reports.
It is made with the lithographic method of 7nm, which will help increase the efficiency of the chipset, reducing power consumption and increasing its performance at the same time. It has improved AI capabilities, namely "three times higher AI performance" compared to its predecessor, while it also has a dedicated "Vision" processor which significantly increases the graphics processing speed and will be of great help to AR applications. The new image processor allows it to download 4K HDR video at 60 fps, using 25% of the energy required by the Snapdragon 845.
Of course, the Snapdragon 855 could not be without support capabilities in-display fingerprint sensor but also 5G networks. As for the first part, Qualcomm developed it 3D Sonic Sensor for this purpose, which can recognize your fingerprint on the screen glass, even if it is wet or slightly "soiled" with microparticles.
Regarding the 5G leg, Qualcomm will build the SD855 with X24 LTE modem for data transfer speeds up to 2 Gbps, but at the same time it will give any manufacturer the opportunity to buy chipsets with the X50 5G modem, for use in its devices, in 2019. So it remains to be seen how many and which of the manufacturers will follow this path, which will increase costs but will make the devices more "future-proof".
The first smartphones with the Snapdragon 855 are expected within the first quarter of 2019, to Samsung Galaxy S10 to be one of those who will incorporate it.
