Is the nightmare of dangerous batteries returning to Samsung Smartphones?

So it seems, Samsung has not overcome its problems with lithium batteries on her phones, which they swell and become dangerous if they are not charged for a long time

We all remember the international panic caused by its faulty battery Galaxy Note 7, which would suddenly catch fire, forcing Samsung to issue a massive recall of the devices, and tarnishing (if only temporarily) the company's reputation.

This resulted in FAA to instruct all airlines to deny entry to passengers on planes that have the Galaxy Note 7, even if it was turned off and in their luggage.

Many years have passed since then and everyone has assumed that Samsung has finally solved the problem with exploding batteries, but it seems that the problem still exists, albeit in a different form.

The well-known YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss (also known as Arun Rupesh Maini), but also several other Youtubers dealing with Smartphones, have noticed that batteries in Samsung phones swell at a disproportionately high rate compared to other manufacturers.

The bloated battery problem most often affects older devices, but some of the Samsung devices affected are only two years old – such as the Galaxy z fold 2 released in 2020. Swelling in the device's battery becomes obvious when the back on the back of the phone peels off or deforms, but sometimes it is very difficult to detect, and there is a great risk that you will not realize that your device's battery is in a very dangerous state.

Battery swelling is not a new problem and is not exclusive to Samsung devices. As lithium batteries age, some chemical reactions are activated at the terminals of the defective batteries, which produce gases that cause the battery cells to swell greatly and increase the risk of device fire.

This problem is more likely to occur if you leave a battery without charging or discharging for a long time, and for this reason, many Smartphone manufacturers ( like Apple ), recommend that you keep batteries at about 50% charge if you are not using a device for long periods of time.

For Samsung specifically, the big worry the new data is causing is that the battery swelling problem seems to be affecting Samsung phones that have been released in recent years, much more so than other manufacturers.

According to Zack by JerryRigEverything, also experienced the same problem with Samsung batteries, which was also confirmed by the acquaintance Youtuber MKBHD. THE Zack believes that this particular battery swelling problem may be caused by the evaporation of some chemical in the electrolyte inside Samsung batteries.

If you also have any older Samsung smartphones in your desk drawers, you might want to check them for swollen batteries, as no one wants to burn down their house if a phone catches on fire, and let us know in the comments if you see any too swollen batteries in Samsung phones.

It is not yet clear how widespread this problem is or how systemic it may become. Samsung has been asked to comment on this published information about the batteries it manufactures, and we will let you know if there is any further development on this very serious matter.
