The United States warned Germany on Monday that it would reconsider its exchange of information if Berlin allowed Chinese company Huawei to participate in the development of the 5G network.

The United States is trying to persuade its partners to boycott the Chinese telecommunications group over its national security concerns. Huawei, for its part, denies the allegations and has taken legal action against the US government.
When asked about this by AFP, the American embassy did not want to confirm the exact content of Grenell's letter, dated Friday, March 8.
"If unreliable agents are found in an ally's network, this may raise questions in the future about the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive communications between such a country and its allies," a spokesman for the embassy said.
"This could be a threat to good cooperation and the exchange of some information with the United States in the future," he added.
The warning is an escalation of the efforts of the government of US President Donald Trump to persuade its partners to exclude Huawei. In addition to the US, Australia and New Zealand have already banned their companies from working with Huawei to develop a 5G network.
