Apple: Announces new streaming video service on March 25th

Apple has sent out invitations to special press reporters for a special event on March 25 at the futuristic Steve Jobs Theater.

ΟMost analysts believe that the company's announcements will be about the content delivery sector and not the announcement of a new device. After all, the invitation itself is typically eloquent with a film in reverse that ends in the very revealing phrase "It's show time».

Rumors of preparing a TV content service have been circulating for some time. Bloomberg in a post described the future video-streaming service as directly competing with Netflix and Amazon Prime with access to exclusive Apple content, while estimating that the official launch will take place in the summer of 2019. In fact, the same post stated that The event on March 25 will also feature people from the Seventh Art, such as actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

According to Reuters, in addition to providing its own content, Apple plans to provide content to, among others, the networks of CBS, Viacom and Starz (owned by Lions Gate Entertainment). The interesting point in the Reuters report is that the company is planning a global launch of its service, in a very bold move. It is worth noting, however, that the Apple App Store is now available in more than 100 countries. The icing on the cake is the information that Apple is also in negotiations with the HBO network (part of AT&T and owned by Warner Media), creator of Game of Thrones.

It is not excluded that in the special event that Apple is preparing, the new, planned news service of the company will be presented. As a Wall Street Journal article revealed a few weeks ago, Apple is already in negotiations with publishers to determine the terms of content and how to distribute the subscription.

The above actions are obviously part of Apple's overall effort to further develop the service sector as a means of compensating for the ever-lower sales of iPhone devices. Recall that the US company in its latest financial results reported that in the last quarter of 2018 (the so-called and "festive" because the Christmas season is included) iPhone sales were lower by 15% compared to the same period last year. In contrast, the services sector had revenue of $ 10,9 billion, a top performance in Apple chronicles.

If the above is confirmed, this will be the first time that a major event held by Apple will not have as its object any hardware product. At the same time it should be considered the culmination of Apple's change of philosophy as moves preceded by the ability to play Apple content on third-party hardware devices. Remember that the Apple Music service is now compatible with "smart" speakers from other manufacturers (Amazon) while Samsung TV owners can also play content purchased from Apple services.
