Netflix: Manages to have 149 million subscribers worldwide, despite US subscription increase

In the first quarter of 2019 the Netflix increased its subscribers by 9,6 million, now reaching 149 million worldwide.

ΤThese numbers exceeded the expectations of investors, analysts and their executives, as the Netflix is becoming increasingly popular around the world.

The 1,74 million new subscribers between January and March came from the US, while the remaining 7,86 million came from the rest of the world.

The company spends billions of dollars every year to make new productions (series and movies) and thus attract new customers, which so far succeeds.

In 2018, it spent $ 12 billion, an amount that could reach $ 15 billion this year. This aggressive policy has resulted in Netflix growing, but also being loaded with ever-increasing lending, which reached $ 10,36 billion in 2018 from $ 3,36 billion in 2016.

As fierce competition approaches with other entertainment and technology giants such as Disney, Apple, Hulu and Amazon launching their own video services streaming, Netflix has increased the price of its monthly subscription in the US from $ 11 to $ 13 (for young people the increase was valid from January, but for older ones from now on). There have also been increases in subscriptions in Brazil and Mexico, while it is not yet clear whether a similar increase will take place in other countries and when a RES-EIA report states.

Netflix, on the other hand, made a forecast for up to five million new subscribers in the second quarter of 2019, which did not appear to meet Wall Street, which expected 5,5 million, according to Reuters.

Some days ago Disney has announced that it will launch its own streaming service in November this year with a much lower monthly subscription of seven dollars. "We do not expect that these new players in the market will substantially affect our development. "We welcome the competition, which will definitely benefit content creators and consumers," Netflix commented.

In the first quarter of 2019, Netflix revenue was $ 4,52 billion (compared to $ 3,7 billion in the first quarter of 2018), while its profit was $ 344,1 million (up from $ 290,1 million). USD in the corresponding

Netflix will begin piloting in the UK to compile and publish weekly lists of the ten most popular programs (Top 10) on its "for those who want to watch what others watch" platform, according to the Guardian. If the initiative proves successful, it will be extended to other countries.

For this year, among others, the Netflix plans new seasons in popular series such as "Stranger Things" and "Orange is the New Black" as well as films such as "The Irishman" by Martin Scorsese starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
