The application MIUI Health which is integrated in MIUI, now acquires the ability to measure heart rate.
Πlast year, Xiaomi has introduced us to a new application that is built - in MIUI called MIUI Health . This application offers a number of features such as monitoring steps with support for running, cycling, sleep monitoring through user movements, snoring but also monitoring the menstrual cycle for women.
Now, with version v2.7.4, the application acquires a new feature - that of heart rate monitoring.
Until a few years ago, the Samsung provided some heart rate sensors on its top smartphones. But with the increase in demand of fitness trackers (Bands) and SmartWatch, the company stopped including them in its devices. Another important reason was that it would save space for some other essential components within Smartphones.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi has now implemented heart rate monitoring in the application MIUI Health of MIUI, without relying on a special sensor. The application uses the phone camera and the LED flash to measure heart rate.
The MIUI Health v2.7.4 and the new heart rate monitor were first announced by a channel on Telegram called @MiuiSystemUpdates (through the XDA Developers ).
According to the screenshots and a video shared by the channel, to measure their heart rate, users should block the camera and the LED flash of their phone with one of their fingers until the measurement presented through a progress bar. You will then be able to see the current state from a pop-up window, which will include other interesting facts about your general physical condition.
Just like in the application Mi Fit (now called Zepp) which is specialized for Mi Band and some Amazfit Smartwatch, users will have access to a toolbar that will show the history of heart rate measurements. However, we are not sure how accurate these measurements will be.
The application MIUI Health was initially restricted for use in its Chinese version MIUI 12, but is now also available in other software versions for some devices.
