Η MediaTek unveiled its new mid-range SoC, named Helio P70, which comes to compete with the corresponding mid-range series of Qualcomm (eg Snapdragon 6xx) and in order to be placed in a variety of new smartphones that will be released from the beginning of 2019 (mainly by Chinese companies).
With the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, the company promises fast and hassle-free gaming, upgraded Artificial Intelligence features and even better energy management.
The MediaTek Helio P70 SoC is built with TSMC 12nm FinFET scale architecture. It has an octa-core CPU with 4x high-performance Cortex-A73 cores clocked at up to 2.1GHz (13% faster than the P60) and 4x Cortex-A53 cores for performing less demanding processes. The integrated graphics processor is the ARM Mali-G72 MP3 clocked at 900MHz, while a built-in multi-core APU clocked at 525MHz has been installed for 30% more power in the performance of Artificial Intelligence functions.
In addition, the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC allows the installation of a dual 24MP + 16MP camera or a 32MP single camera, with the new image processor (ISP) consuming 18% less power compared to the P60 and up to 8GB of RAM. Finally, the built-in 4G LTE modem supports download speeds of up to 400Mbps
