The termination of the contract with a mobile phone company for 5G pilot application in the city of Kalamata decided by the Municipal Council.
ΤThe issue of the pilot application of 5G had already provoked stormy reactions from citizens who were protesting, citing the health side effects that its implementation might have had.
During the meeting of the municipal council, all the factions and representatives of the protesting citizens were present.
"The contract, which expired on December 31, will not be renewed"Clarified from his initial position the Mayor of Kalamata Thanasis Vassilopoulos, arguing that first we should see the reciprocal benefits that this contract would have for the Municipality of Kalamata and reiterated his intention to organize an informative scientific day on this issue in January.
Tensions
The discussion of the issue lasted more than three hours, with the mayor of Kalamata in the role of firefighter trying to calm the atmosphere.
Eventually, two proposals came to a vote, the first by the Municipal Authority, which referred to the non-renewal of the contract on 31/12 and the second, which requested the termination of the contract at the end of the year.
Following a tense vote, the motion to suspend was approved by 16 votes, with the non-renewal receiving 13 votes.
After the announcement of the result, the attending citizens celebrated and characterized the decision as a first victory.
It is reminded that the specific contract with Wind was agreed and solemnly signed by the previous Municipal Authority Panagiotis Nika, and Kalamata together with Trikala and the Municipality of Zografou were the three municipalities nationwide where 5G technology would be piloted.
This is, in the end, a very negative development in terms of the transition to 5G in our country, and this fact causes intense concern, if we take into account that in all European countries they are preparing feverishly for the transition of networks to the new 5G technology.
