Article 11 obliges online platforms to post informative, news articles - such as Google News, to conclude a license agreement for the relevant material with the original publisher.
The agreed text must be formally ratified by the European Parliament and the EU. Adoption in the Council of Ministers is expected next week, with a final vote in the EP plenary in the last week of March, by mid-April at the latest. . Once adopted by the two institutions, Member States will have 24 months to transpose the new rules into national law.
