About the Internet Register of Names ending in .gr and .el
The Internet Registry of .gr and .el suffixes of the Institute of Informatics of the Institute of Technology and Research (FORTH-IP) is responsible for the technical support and operation of the Register for Top Level Domain .gr and .el. This role has been assigned to him by the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT), competent Authority for the assignment and management of .gr and .el domain names.
For the maintenance of the register, FORTH-IP, utilizing its experience in the management of the Register (.gr was registered and started operating by FORTH-IC in 1989) created from 2004 an infrastructure, which implements the structure Register - Registrar - User for domain name registrations. For this implementation, a protocol widely used in registry applications called Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) was chosen. The EPP is approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and is an open protocol. The use of this protocol allows the registration of registrars with the Registry, both through applications that the Registry has for use, and with applications that registrars will develop to better serve users.
FORTH-IP as responsible for the infrastructure, the technical support and the operation of the Internet Naming System Registry for the .gr and .el site, has developed and implements a Quality System, certified according to the requirements of the ISO-9001 standard from December 2008 .
The increased requirements for information security managed by the Registry have created the need to develop and install an Information Security Management System, certified since September 2014 in accordance with the requirements of the ISO-27001: 2013 standard.
