Η Foxconn announced that will manufacture electric cars through a new platform, called MIH Open Platform.

Γfor those who do not closely follow the technology and IT industry, the name Foxconn probably does not mean much. This is one construction "colossus" from Taiwan which cooperates with leading companies in the industry, while a typical example is that manufactures iPhones on behalf of Apple.

Thus, the fact that Foxconn just announced that will manufacture electric cars, definitely made a lot of heads "turn".

The electric car market can have value even $ 1 trillion by the end of the decade and Foxconn wants a piece of this "pie". And, of course, the construction of electric cars is closer to that of a product of technology, than a traditional vehicle.

MIH Open Platform

So the company announced the creation of a new platform, named MIH Open Platform. It is essentially a set of "tools" that will allow any company to, to design an electric car, which will then be manufactured by Foxconn.

The platform will be “Modular” according to Foxconn, which means that some parts of the vehicle will be able to easily replaced / upgraded. The designer will be able to choose his type chassis to his liking (eg sedan, SUV, etc.) and to "play" with what is available accessories and features that the model wishes to have, from the diameter of the wheels to the size of the battery and the power of the electric motors.

In addition, the company offers software to developers, which will help them to develop the characteristics of their liking, or to improve existing ones. THE William Wei, A Foxconn executive said its goal is to become "Android of electric vehicles", which shows how grandiose her plan is.

Ο Chief Product Officer of the company stated that "After 2025, the one who will have the lead on solid state batteries, will dominate the market ".

So it's not surprising that Foxconn is already trying to develop its own solid-state batteries, which will be the successor to current lithium-ion batteries and offer greater autonomy and efficiency. The first SSB from Foxconn is expected in 2024.
