Facebook: Deletes accounts belonging to the armed far-right Boogaloos

The Facebook, announced yesterday Tuesday that it has downloaded or banned hundreds of accounts that linked to the violent, far-right Boogaloo movement in the US, according to a statement.

Υheavily armed supporters of this movement have infiltrated the recent demonstrations that broke out in USA against police violence and racism, and one of them killed two police officers in California in early June.

The Facebook announced yesterday that "it prohibits any presence of this violent movement on our platform and we withdraw any content that supports, represents or promotes it."

«(The movement) actively promotes violence against citizens, police and government officials and against institutions", The announcement adds.

The Facebook withdrew 220 accounts from its platform and another 95 from Instagram, as well as more than 100 pages and 400 other groups promoting similar content.

The term Boogaloo has been used for years on social networking sites.

The movement is not organized and does not have a leader, while it includes anti-government activists, advocates of gun ownership, neonazi and advocates of white supremacy. The main demand of his supporters is the armed overthrow of the government.

It initially started as a small movement on the 4chan website, but over the years its supporters have grown significantly.

Report published in April, the Tech Transparency Project, reported that 125 groups were recorded in Facebook dedicated to ideology Boogalooo, with tens of thousands of followers discussing weapons and explosives and attack tactics against the authorities.

A member of the movement was arrested on 11 April in Texas after posting a video on social networking sites saying he would kill a police officer.

In June, a US Air Force contingent linked to the movement was charged with the murder of a federal guard during a protest against police violence and racism.
