Eight out of ten households in the country now have internet access from their home (80,4%) this year and compared to 2010 an increase of 73,3% is recorded.
ΑThis results from research into the use of information and communication technologies by households and individuals ELSTAT, in which they took part 5.111 private households and an equal number of their members, throughout Greece, provided there is at least one member of age 16- 74 years old in every household.
According to the same research:
- Broadband uses 80% of all households, showing an increase of 2019% compared to 78,1 (2,4%).
- 8 out of 10 (78,1%) used the internet during the first quarter of 2020 and an increase of 3,2% was recorded compared to 2019.
- Internet usage on a regular basis, ie at least once a week, is made by 98% of those who used the internet in the first quarter of 2020. More than twice during the day 88,7% of regular users used the internet.
- Regarding the reasons for using the internet, the search for information and services is the main activity for 9 out of 10 (88,9%).
- 1 in 2 (52,9%) used e-government services in the period April 2019-March 2020, for personal reasons.
- 1 in 2 (47,8%) who have ever used the internet at least once, in the first quarter of 2020 made an online purchase or order of goods or services via the internet, for personal use. 93,1% of consumers who made online purchases chose to make online purchases from domestic companies, a percentage that records an increase of 7,4% compared to 2019 (86,7%).
- Regarding the products and services they bought or ordered online from the first quarter of 2020, for personal use: 65% bought clothing (including sportswear), footwear and accessories (bags, jewelry, etc.) , and 30,4% bought computers, tablets, mobile phones or their accessories (printers, cables, cases, headphones, etc.).
- The fact that online activities on the internet are recorded and used to send ads, occupies 7 out of 10 (68%).
- 9 out of 10 (88,9%) use a smart mobile phone for personal use. An increase of 9,8% is recorded in the owners of smart mobile phones compared to the first quarter of 2018 (81%). For 7 out of 10 (71,4%) of those who use a smart phone, their phone has security software (antivirus, antispam, firewall), while 2 in 10 (17,4%) do not know if their phone has software security.
- Finally, of those who have used the internet in the first quarter of 2020, 37,6% report that they have connected to the internet through television and 10% that they have connected from the game console. 9,1% have used a smart watch, exercise / health bracelet, headphones, clothing / shoes or other internet-connected accessories for personal use and 1,7% have used a car with built-in wireless internet connection .
