Greece has a very high readiness index for the development of 5G networks, as the preparatory work and the implementation of pilot networks have already begun.
ΜOn the occasion of the first quarterly report of the European Commission on the progress of the development of 5G networks in Europe, the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts, Vassilis Maglaras stated: "The systematic work we have been doing in recent years for the development of telecommunications in the country is paying off and this is now reflected in the statistics and indicators. citizens and businesses the goods of the modern, digital economy, ensuring the conditions of sustainable development for the country».
According to the European Commission report, the data show that Europe is developing 5G networks at a rapid pace and remains competitive with the rest of the world. Testing services have already started in 23 Member States (including Greece) and the large-scale implementation of the networks is expected to start in 2020, along with the availability of commercial 5G devices.
In Greece, the implementation of 5G pilot networks in Greek cities has started, with the cooperation of the providers of electronic communications networks, while the availability of the required spectrum in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band has been launched and a spectrum has already been allocated for the pilot operation of the networks.
In addition, Greece participates in the network of European automated corridors, with the signing of the transnational agreement for the implementation of the 5G corridor Greece-Bulgaria Serbia.
