The latest move by the Trump administration, at least in terms of technology, puts Huawei back in the spotlight.
Λmore than 48 hours to end the term of one of the most controversial presidents in U.S. history, but even at the last minute, the Trump administration proves that it had a clear mission to put as many obstacles as possible to Chinese companies in an economic war that changed the landscape of the technology world considerably.
In a very brief flashback, it all started with ZTE to pay a fine of $ 1.7 billion. and be forced to change all members of its Board of Directors in order to continue lifting the (initially) seven-year embargo. Subsequently it was Huawei's turn and its former Honor subsidiary to be excluded from all US-based technologies (including processors and software), and more recently DJI drones manufacturer and Xiaomi to be in the crosshairs.
The latest (?) Act of the Trump administration, at least in terms of technology, puts Huawei back in the spotlight. According to the agency Reuters, the Department of Commerce has decided to reject all applications made by US companies in the semiconductor industry (processors, chipsets, etc.) in order to cooperate with Huawei and in addition cancels any active contract.
This means that companies such as Intel, for example, will no longer be able to supply Huawei with processors, which could create a problem in the category of laptops where the Chinese company has shown a tremendous rise in recent months. It is also characteristic that the cooperation agreements under consideration with Huawei exceed the value of $280 billions and you realize that American companies are also being incredibly damaged by these rejections.
If we could make a prediction this would be that requests for cooperation will be submitted again to the new government that will form in January 20 2021 ο Joe Biden and it remains to be seen whether anything in general will change the US attitude towards Chinese technology companies (and beyond).
