Google is preparing a new API for Android version 15 that will allow finding a device even when the device is turned off.

There are times when we may not find our cell phone, especially when it has run out of battery or we have forgotten it turned off somewhere.

The operation Find My Device of Google is a solution to this problem but even this solution has its limitations. Restrictions such as, that the device at that time may be disabled.

On the occasion of the above problem, Google preparing a new one API which will allow the device to be found regardless of whether it is disabled or not.

A recent report from the Android Police, shows us how this works API in finding devices even when they are turned off. Specifically, the API stores budgeted Bluetooth beacons in the memory of the Bluetooth controller.

However, for this feature to work, it must be present inside the device specialized material which is responsible for powering the Bluetooth controller. This allows the controller to work even when the device is completely turned off. Consequently, the device battery must have a small stock for this specific function.

There are rumors that this feature will be available on Pixel 9 and its references Android Police indicate that it may also be available on Pixel 8, after upgrading to Android 15.

In addition to hardware prerequisites, significant software development efforts are required to support it Bluetooth Finder HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). Users should also upgrade their device to Android 15 as well as having the latest version of it Find My Device of Google.

Unfortunately, older devices like the Pixel Fold and the series Pixel 7 & 6, they are less likely to receive that function. We don't know if this limitation is due to downloading appropriate hardware or software.

But there's a chance we'll see this feature appear on older devices in the future, especially recent ones high-end models like the Pixel Fold.
