5G Networks: Direct benefit of 2,6 billion euros in Greece from their use

Greece can secure financial benefits of 2,6 billion euros by 2025 from the use of 5G network, as shown by a pan - European survey of Qualcomm Technologies, Ericsson and Analysys Mason.


ΜBased on the available data, Greece - with an investment of 900 million euros - can reap a benefit of 2,6 billion euros, with a net benefit (ie total benefit excluding cost) of 1,7 billion euro.

In Europe, the total benefit could be as much as € 210 billion, with Germany having a net benefit of € 38,5 billion, the highest in absolute terms.

For its part, Switzerland has the potential to show the highest cost-benefit ratio (1 to 14,7), as with an investment of 700 million euros it can benefit by 10 billion euros (net amount).

The biggest profits

In terms of sectors of use, the greatest economic benefits, in terms of European GDP, come from smart factories, agriculture and fixed wireless access, with net benefits of € 58 billion, € 37 billion and € 18 billion, respectively.

The study then groups the market into four key areas:

  • smart production & Logistics
  • smart rural areas
  • smart urban areas
  • smart public services.

The sectors of smart production and smart rural areas have the largest net benefit, amounting to € 70 billion and € 55 billion respectively.

In Greece, the sectors of smart rural areas and smart production & Logistics correspond to the largest net profit, amounting to 1,1 billion and 0,4 billion euros, respectively. The smart rural sector also has the highest cost-benefit ratio (3,8).
