The German website Planet 3DNow! published one extremely interesting information heard during the “MSI Insider ShowOn YouTube.
O Eric van Beurden, one of the moderators of the aforementioned show and Marketing Director at MSI, revealed that ia new microcode from AMD arrives next month. According to this report, it will bring over 100 different enhancements for AMD Ryzen users processors.
Ο microcode is the command line supported by a processor at the lowest level. We can characterize it as the firmware of the processor and it is typically "loaded" from the BIOS of the motherboard.
Van Beurden stated that AMD will start shipping the new BIOS next week. He did not mention the version, but logically it is the new AGESA 1.0.0.4 microcode. Van Beurden also explained that this update goes first to the BIOS creator who is responsible for updating the BIOS for each motherboard manufacturer. Then the motherboard manufacturers receive it, which takes a few weeks to proceed with micro-improvements and adapt it to each model separately.
Finally, it was reported that these 100+ improvements are not just about troubleshooting. They include new features and other improvements. Unfortunately, he did not make any other revelations.
The time when the new upgrade will finally reach the end users is estimated to be November. It's almost certain, though, that we'll be able to look at some beta firmwares by then.
