O Komachi_ensaka recently published the CUs numbers of the upcoming Navi 21 graphics cards from AMD.
Κas these numbers have been published by other leaks e.g. from Chippell, this information is beginning to gain credibility. With 80 CUs, Stream Processors reach 5.120 and the "Big Navi" that AMD gamers and fans have been waiting for a long time are on the horizon.
Ο _beg me has published a summary of the information on AMD GPUs so far:
Using the proportion of GCN architecture, 80 CUs will contain 5.120 Stream Processors. If AMD manages to clock them at a minimum of 1700 MHz, that means we are talking about 17,5 TFLOPs of processing power. By putting the equation and the integration scale at 7nm, AMD could achieve such power in a 300W power package. Of course, this is probably something that leaves hardcore gamers and enthusiasts indifferent.
It is very likely that such a card could be the Big Navi that AMD has been promising for about two and a half years.. Following AMD's nomenclature, such a card could be the RX 5950XT or 6950XT or whatever AMD decides to name it.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, promised top Radeon RX Navi graphics cards, stating that AMD is investing heavily in ray tracing capabilities for the company's graphics cards in 2020. These cards will be made with the RDNA2 architecture with main features:
- 7nm + construction scale
- Features and performance graphics enthusiast level
- Ray tracking hardware support
- A combination of GDDR6 and HBM2 graphics cards
- Better energy efficiency than 1st generation Navi
AMD GPUs have so far failed to tackle Nvidia's expensive Turing cards at the highest level. The release of RX 5950XT / 6950XT cards could restart the competitiveness of gaming products from AMD and perhaps now the opportunity is unique for AMD, as it also has a construction advantage, at least in terms of lithography.
