For another year, a study by the European Commission shows that Greece is significantly more expensive than the European average in terms of mobile phone providers' charges.
Όhow referred to in the European Commission report published yesterday and carried out by the company Empirica, Greece appears to be more expensive in relation to the European average from 4% (in programs for 500 MB) to 86% (in programs for 10 GB). In the category of 5 GB, our country, however, appears to be 64% more expensive compared to the European average, at 20 GB by 60%, in the category of 1 GB by 29% and in the category of 2 GB by 6 %.
It should, of course, be noted that the formation of prices related to charges in Greece includes taxation, which is the highest of almost all European countries, something that affects the country's ranking. Specifically, the charges concern the mobile telephony fee which ranges from 12% to 20% depending on the amount of the bill, as well as the VAT 24%, from the highest rates in Europe.
In addition, mobile phone providers who have been repeatedly asked about the results of these surveys have often pointed out that the charges taken into account are the "base prices" and do not take into account the significant discounts offered to subscribers in Greece, often through combined packages.
However, based on the results of the EU survey, Greece is ranked fourth most expensive country in mobile phone charges in the EU, with the cheapest countries being Italy, Poland, Austria, France, the United Kingdom, the Luxembourg and Finland. Relatively cheap countries are Romania, Sweden, Denmark, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Spain, while expensive ones are Portugal, Hungary, Greece, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, Croatia, Croatia.
However, according to the new EU study, mobile broadband prices in 2018 decreased in EU countries, compared to those of 2017.
