If you notice what is happening in Chinese Smartphone purchase in recent years, you will immediately see the rapid growth experienced by fast battery charging technology, and as it turns out, a new fast charge champion will show up every few months.

Τthe upcoming Xiaomi 11t pro to be announced in a few days in Europe, will support fast charging at 120W . Xiaomi did not reveal its charging time 11T Pro, however, the My 10 Ultra which was only released in the Chinese market last year, also supports fast charging in 120W, and need just 23 minutes to fully charge.

The usual reaction of users to these new fast charging technologies is that charging at such high power will definitely have a negative impact on battery life, and that there will be safety issues from overheating.

To give a clear answer to all the above questions, the The Verge interviewed Xiaomi's spokesperson for global markets, Daniel Desjarlais.

Ο Daniel Desjarlais spoke about the company's efforts in fast charging technology and what to expect from the new Xiaomi 11T Pro.

How does fast charging at 120W work?

"It's like having two different inlets to refuel your car and two separate fuel tanks," he said. Daniel for its design dual cell battery used by the company on the device to achieve charge at 120W.

In terms of impact on battery life, the Daniel reported that it remains the same as other more traditional cell phone batteries.

As he said:

We do a lot of tests and in general, after 800 charge cycles the battery still has the 80% of its capacity. Some may think it's too much to lose 20% of capacity, but this is basically the standard for all charging technologies. The 800 charging cycles for most people it translates to approx two years of useand, as you can see, the new fast charging technology is very reliable.

In comparison, the Apple, claims that its lithium ion battery iPhone “Can maintain the 80% of its original capacity during 500 full charge cycles“. If the data from the tests performed by Xiaomi is accurate, then the battery life remains the same with normal (low power) charging.

When asked if using a slower charger would further improve battery health, the Daniel he said:

There is a relatively small difference between the two. Of course, the best case scenario is that if you want to charge your device overnight, you will use the slowest chargers, and use the fast chargers in the most urgent situations where you need to charge your device immediately.

In terms of security issues, the Daniel said the tests performed were very thorough, and the device itself contains 34 different battery protection functions.

"In general, this is the reason why this technology is now being introduced in the global market", he said. «We want to make sure we comply with all regulations, but we also want to ensure that this new technology is extremely safe for everyone».

Xiaomi believes that fast charging technology will continue to evolve and there is still much room for improvement. For example, earlier this year, the company introduced an original system fast charging at 200W which can fully charge a battery in 4000mAh in just 8 minutes.

In terms of charging at 200w, The Daniel said it would be late to appear in some commercial products, on the grounds that further safety and performance tests are required.

Ο Daniel he added by saying:

Some may think that fast charging does not matter, but there are also many people who think that this is a great added value for their devices. You will not really realize how good this new fast charge technology is for your daily life, until you have to hurry to get a taxi in 5 minutes and your phone battery is going to run out.

Remind you that the presentation of his new series Xiaomi 11T Pro and 11T, will take place on 15 Σεπτεμβρίου.
