A new patent was unveiled today Xiaomi, approved by CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration).
Η Xiaomi, as it is known, has not released a folding smartphone yet, but it has shown us some of its ideas, through some teaser videos that it has published in the past.
The company has so far patented several patents for various foldable Smartphones, and today a new patent was unveiled approved by CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration), which reveals a device that has a unique camera layout, which apparently is specially designed for folding smartphones.
Most patents feature mainly the hinge or folding mechanism, but this new Xiaomi patent focuses more on the use of camera sensors. This new device will have two rear cameras and a front selfie camera.
As shown in the drawings, Xiaomi adds a strange notch in the upper left corner of the screen. Also, the front selfie camera is located just below this screen slot. Xiaomi will probably use a Selfie camera that will be placed under a hole or under the screen of the device on the front. In June 2019, the company also introduced camera technology below the screen (Under-Display camera) using a modified version of it My 9.
In this new patent we observe that when the screen of the device is folded, the front camera can be used simultaneously with both rear cameras. The same can be done with Huawei Mate X, and it seems that Xiaomi on this device will also be able to use all three sensors to take a selfie photo.
Once the screen is open, only one camera sensor can be used for selfies or video calls.
As with most patents that Xiaomi has occasionally registered, there is a good chance that the company will never release a smartphone using this patent. We have already seen in the past some similar implementations in the so-called "Candy bar" smartphones.
Recent leaks have also shown that Xiaomi is also working on a foldable smartphone clamshell, which in fact is quite similar to Galaxy z flip. According to the latest information, the company has submitted new orders to Samsung and LG for the flexible screen, but also special flexible UTG glass, and it seems that although there is no official confirmation, Xiaomi is preparing for the release of its first foldable Smartphone, somewhere between the last quarter of this year or the beginning of 2021.
