One of the technologies that users expect to be implemented is Selfie cameras to be found below the screen of your smartphone.

ΕSome Smarthone prototypes that use this technology have already been introduced, but we still do not see them available in the market, and today the vice president of Xiaomi explains the reasons why this happens.

As he said Lu Weibing, we will not see a smartphone coming out soon with the built-in Selfie camera under the screen (Under Display camera), and as he explains, this is because there are some technical challenges that must first be overcome.

Photo quality is the biggest problem

Many have already stated that the quality of the photos produced by this technology is far from the current market standards, but few have explained to us what really contributes to this side effect.

To demystify this issue, Xiaomi Vice President explains that there are two main problems with this type of camera.

1. The high pixel density of current screens.

According to Lu Weibing, the high rate of pixels per inch that the screens have, prevents enough light from reaching the sensor. The more pixels a screen has, the harder it will be for light to reach the sensor, which leads to the second and biggest problem.

2. Due to the insufficient lighting that reaches the sensor, the quality of the captured photos is much worse than the quality of today's cameras. Therefore, the adoption of this technology with the technical limitations it has today, would be a step backwards in the quality of the photos produced.

To make this new technology available on the market, researchers need to find a way to help light through the pixels of the screens reach the camera sensor without loss, and only when this problem is solved will we start to see this technology on the shelves.

We do not know when this will happen, and it may take months or years for these problems to be resolved.

Until then, we should forget about this technology, and come to terms with existing solutions for Selfie cameras. It might be nice to design the Selfie camera hidden under the screen of our device, and to stop seeing these notches on the screens and pop-up mechanisms, but if it is to have poor quality photos it is better to we miss him.
