Xiaomi: Explains the reasons that led it to choose IPS panels for the Mi 10T series

Today, Xiaomi, through a representative, explains to us the reasons that led it to the decision not to equip the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro with an OLED screen.

Τthe debut of young people Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro took place last month, with the devices being almost identical, as their only difference is in the main camera.

Both devices are equipped with one 6,67 inch flat IPS screen with refresh rate up to 144Hz.

What was the reason for choosing the LCD screens in the Mi 10T series

While flagship devices would be expected to have OLED panels, Xiaomi chose to equip them with a good quality IPS panel rather than a OLED type Waterfall that we have seen in other flagships of the company.

Naturally, this choice of the company may not have satisfied many of its fans, as there are many who associate the flagships with the existence of an OLED screen.

So today Techradar managed to contact Xiaomi's marketing director, Daniel Hoang Desjarlais, who explained to us what was it that guided the company to proceed to the selection of a level IPS panel, and not some OLED.

According to the company representative, this choice by Xiaomi was not made to reduce the cost of the devices, as it may seem at first glance. According to him, the company had conducted many polls and studies, which made it clear that almost 60% of users they prefer flat screens, but if they want to get a flagship device, they will have to buy a device that will have a curved OLED screen.

He went on to say that, indeed, he can OLED panel to offer much better accuracy in the display of colors, and better black, but other than the fact that the IPS panel have a lower price - at the same time they have a milder effect on the eyes. According to him, about 10% of users report severe discomfort when working with OLED screens.

Daniel Hoang Desjarlais
It is better to offer a high quality LCD screen, in fact the best of the best LCDs currently on the market, compared to a fairly good AMOLED screen.
, concluded the representative of Xiaomi.

Summarizing all the above, the company's product manager wanted to convey to the general public the idea that the flat IPS screen was installed at the request of users, and the company simply agreed with them.

However, it is a fact that the news Mi 10T & Pro have one of the best LCD screens currently available in the industry, and it is indeed much safer for the eyes, as they do not tire as much as OLED screens, especially when one chooses low light and the flickering (the screen flickers).
