Huawei : US eases restrictions on Huawei – Can it rise from its ashes?

The US government is lifting some of the restrictions it imposed on Huawei along with other Chinese companies as it seeks to maintain America's leadership in the global technology industry

Αthis loosening of restrictions will reportedly allow US companies to participate more actively in international technology standards meetings, and have greater penetration of the Chinese market.

The US issues a new rule that loosens tech restrictions on Huawei

Η Huawei placed in 2019 US Department of Commerce entity list, When the Donald Trump claimed that the company has close ties to the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese Army, calling her a threat to US national security. The sanctions imposed on Huawei cut off the Chinese tech giant's access to its supply chain and its US partners, such as Google and Qualcomm. This essentially limited Huawei to only being able to operate in the domestic market of China, while still having an active presence in markets such as Europe.

Under these sanctions, US companies would not be able to do business with Huawei unless they obtain a special license. But this has led to confusion about what is allowed and what is not. Therefore, US technology companies have limited their participation in activities related to global technology standards, such as 5G, in which Huawei has actively and vigorously participated.

The U.S. government is now apparently beginning to realize the potential danger of the U.S. being left out of technology developments, as of late, many Chinese companies are beginning to have a greater say in "technical groups that define how technology is designed and implemented worldwide,” and may give China a serious competitive advantage in this technology battle.

To mitigate these effects, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the Department of Commerce recently issued a new rule. It authorizes the sharing of "low-level" technology and software with sanctioned Chinese companies such as Huawei when US companies engage in activities that determine new technology standards and development.

«US stakeholders must fully participate in international standards organizations, particularly when these critical but sometimes invisible technology standards can have significant US national security as well as trade implications"He said Alan Estevez, Under Secretary of Commerce for BIS (via Bloomberg ).

Huawei has a chance to rise from its ashes

The latest relaxations appear to be particularly beneficial for itself and for China as a whole, as China increasingly closes the technology gap with the US, and time will tell if Huawei can rise from the ashes. , and once again become a global force in the technology industry.
