Facebook: Disabled another 2,2 billion fake accounts in the first quarter of 2019

The Facebook announced that in the first quarter of this year it turned off 2,19 billion fake user accounts.

ΣIn total, in the first half of October 2018-March 2019, it has deleted more than three billion accounts.

It is estimated that about 5% of the 2,4 billion active monthly users are fake accounts, which have not yet been discovered.

According to the latest report of the social network, in the same six-month period, more than seven million posts with "hate speech" were removed from Facebook content (four million this year). In the first quarter of 2019, more than a million complaints were also filed by users because their posts were deleted as "hate speech" and, of these, about 150.000 were eventually restored.

At the same time, the CEO of the largest social network Mark Zuckerberg, responding to the increasingly frequent objections and proposals to split Facebook, because it has become too big, said that splitting is not a solution and that instead, thanks to its size, it has managed to defend itself. effectively against the challenges and problems of harmful, misleading and propagandistic content.

«I do not think that the solution to the split of the company will work. The success of our company has allowed us to fund these efforts on a massive scale. I think the amount in our budget for our security systems is more than the total revenue of Twitter this year"Zuckerberg, according to the BBC and Agence France-Presse, said that any split of Facebook into smaller companies" would exacerbate the problems ".

He also denied that Facebook controls the digital advertising market, where, as he said, Google is the leader. "I think the allegations that we are in a kind of dominant position are a bit of an exaggeration," he said.

Facebook has said that the growing number of fake accounts is due to the fact that some "malicious agents", especially spammers who want to make money, use automated methods to create large numbers of such accounts. But Facebook says it can now identify and delete the vast majority of them within minutes before these accounts "cause any damage."

The Facebook report states that for every 10.000 posts viewed by users, less than 14 people see nudity, about 25 view violent content, and less than three view anything related to child abuse or terrorist propaganda. Facebook also cracked down on 900.000 posts related to drug sales, most of which (83%) were automatically deleted from its "smart" software.
