Donald Trump: Says he is ready to ban Tik Tok in the US

His plans to ban the social media TikTok in the US announced late Friday night the American president, Donald Trump.

Σaccording to the information, Washington suspects it is being used by Chinese intelligence.

«As for TikTok, we ban it in the US", Said Trump, speaking to reporters on the presidential plane.

TikTok belongs to the Chinese group ByteDance. It has about 1 billion users worldwide and are especially popular among young people.

TikTok has been the subject of an investigation by CFIUS, the US agency that evaluates proposed investments and acquisitions by foreigners to determine whether they pose a threat to US national security.

U.S. officials have expressed fears in recent weeks that the popular video platform could be used by Beijing for reasons deemed harmful to the United States. US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday he would submit a "proposal" to TikTok to the White House this week.

TikTok has, according to the APE-MPE, repeatedly needed to defend its relationship with China, where ByteDance owns a similar application, but under a different name. The platform has always denied sharing data with the Chinese authorities and has assured that it does not intend to accept such requests.

Yesterday, before the announcement of Donald Trump, American media estimated that the president would force the ByteDance group to sell TikTok. According to the Wall Street Journal and the Bloomberg news agency, the president was going to sign a formal decree to force the Chinese parent company to sell the very popular American platform, in the name of national security protection.

However, Trump announced the ban on TikTok in the US and said he would take similar action today.

According to Reuters, it is not immediately clear what powers Trump has to ban TikTok, which has up to 80 million monthly active users in the United States. It is also unclear how such a ban could be imposed or what legal problems it raises.
