Tesla: Will introduce sensors to protect forgotten children in the car from heatstroke

The electric vehicle manufacturer is awaiting FCC approval for a small-range motion detection device.

Η company Tesla seeks approval from the committee FCC for a motion detection device that could deal with the phenomenon of abandoning children in cars that develop high temperatures as well as prevent car theft.

As mentioned in Reuters, the electric vehicle manufacturer wants to launch an interactive small-scale tool that uses unlicensed detection technology millimeter wave (mmWave) radar.

The gadget, which will be integrated inside the car, detects movement and can identify those inside it, helping to reduce the risk of heat stroke in young children inside the vehicle, as well as protect the world through the development of advanced technology airbags and seat belt reminders. Not to mention along with all this the protection against potential thieves.

"Because these health and safety benefits are in the public interest and because strict compliance with the regulations would reduce the accuracy and efficiency of the device, there is an incentive to give approval,"Tesla wrote in her appeal on 31 July to the Federal Telecommunications Commission FCC.

Unlike most radio-frequency devices that focus on the outside of the vehicle, Tesla technology will focus on the inside — as the vehicle is stationary and moving. This applies to everything from finding a broken window to seat belt reminders and airbag operation (if applicable).

Referring to National Highway Safety CommitteeThe Tesla reported that more than 50 children died from heatstroke in the car in 2018 and 2019 — where more than half of them forgot and left them in the car. The system mmWave, however, aims to avoid fatal accidents with its ability to see through soft materials (such as a blanket covering a child seat), to differentiate a person from a random object, and to detect micro-movements (breaths and heartbeats).

The FCC has been holding a public debate until September 21 on Tesla's request — reminiscent of a similar attempt by Google in 2016 to raise the maximum allowable range for interactive short-range motion detection devices.

Elon Musk Automotive introduced it last year Dog Mode —A way to protect animals in the car and not disturb passers-by. Its owners Model 3 they can activate the temperature control function to ensure the comfort of the animals they leave in the car, while the internal temperature is clearly displayed on the car touch screen along with a message that the driver will be back soon.
