No more upgrades for 5 extra devices from Xiaomi.

ΌAs you know, Xiaomi supports all its flagships, but also its simple devices, with MIUI operating system upgrades, for many years since their official release on the market. As for its flagships, it provided continuous updates for almost 5 years (Mi 2S), something that does not apply to any of the other manufacturers of Smartphones around the world.

But today we had a surprise from Xiaomi, as in its official Chinese forum (miui.com), one of the Admin of the forum announced that the support for updates (China ROM) is stopped, and the following devices will not receive Miui 11 …

  • Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo)
  • Mi 5 (Gemini)
  • Mi 4 (Cancer)
  • Mi 4C (Libra)
  • Mi 4S (Aqua)

The decision for the Mi 5 (Gemini) was a big surprise, as it was first released in February 2016, and was the flagship of the company for that time.

Xiaomi seems to be indirectly breaking its promise of long-term upgrades, at least to its flagships. The other devices mentioned in the announcement do not impress us, as the Mi 4 - Mi 4C - Mi 4S and RedMi Note 3 Pro, have already closed 3 years of life.

Of course, from one point of view, it makes sense for such a thing to happen, as now the devices that the company releases every now and then are too many, and if one takes into account the different Variants (Versions) of devices, such as the recent Mi 8, which was released In versions such as Mi 8 SE - Mi 8 Lite - Mi 8 PRO - Mi 8 Explorer, it becomes extremely difficult to provide multi-year updates, because it requires a large number of Developers who will have to deal with systematic updates of all these devices.

It seems from the above that perhaps the criteria for "cutting" the upgrades to devices, in addition to their age, are calculated from now on their commercial success (sales). And it is well known that the Mi-5 did not do as well as the Variants (Versions) Mi-5S (Capricorn) and Mi-5S Plus (Natrium).

So MIUI 10.2 China Stable will be the latest release of Stable ROM for the Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 Pro, while MIUI 10.1 China Stable will be the latest release of the Stable ROM for the Mi 4, Mi 4S and Mi 4C which is expected to be released in January.

Xiaomi has suspended MIUI China Beta ROM updates for these devices, with immediate effect from November 22, saying that MIUI China Beta 8.11.22 will be the latest update for the Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 Pro, while MIUI 8.9.14 was the latest MIUI China Beta update for Mi 4, Mi 4S and Mi 4C. The company has not made any relevant announcement about MIUI Global ROM for the aforementioned devices, and we will let you know immediately if we find out more about Global ROM.
