The company sent an informative e-mail to all users' accounts with the updated version of the Terms of Service agreement.
ΌAs we all know, the free version of Spotify includes audio ads among the songs they play. Over time, however, many developers have found a way to bypass these ads, allowing the free version users to get rid of the annoying ads.
For this reason, last year, Spotify pursued an aggressive strategy, blocking user accounts that used modified versions of the app in order to get rid of these annoying ads and access the app's Premium features.
Yesterday the company sent an informative e-mail to all users' accounts with the updated version of the Terms of Service agreement, which explicitly prohibits the use of applications or tools that block the display of ads within the Spotify service.
These new terms allow the company to deny access to its service to accounts that have been "caught" using ad-blockers. However, Spotify did not report warning messages to these accounts prior to the ban.
Finally, as we know from reports from The Verge, Spotify already has the ability to detect similar software and temporarily disable accounts that use them until the user removes the software.
The new terms will take effect on March 1st.
